A True Champion in Planning Is Lost
I had received word via email this morning that Owen McShane had passed away suddenly.
His passing has deeply saddened me for I had the up-most respect for Owen and his Straight Thinking. Owen McShane was one of three people who personally inspired me to start VOAKL as well as write my first contribution to democracy in the form of my submission to Auckland Council on The Draft Auckland Plan.
His knowledge and wisdom which were boundless provided the basis and depth to my own work in the submission and here at VOAKL. Owen and I would exchange views and ideas a like Master to an Apprentice regularly on Auckland Planning and Governance issues in the strive of more straight thinking for Auckland. Furthermore his references to New Geography and City Journal where another great academic and ally Professor Wendell Cox resided and wrote regular articles on planning systems failing at an international level were and will always be sites of information wealth.
My condolences to his family on their tragic loss
As a sign of respect – VOAKL will be suspended (that is no comments or commentary from me) today for 24 hours effective immediately.
Rest In Piece Owen
