Beat the Queues for Santa Parade – Get Your Rail Family Pass Now
This advertisement from Auckland Transport advertising rail and Family Passes to Sunday’s Santa Parade in Auckland CBD might have wanted to be a full-page advert on Page Four rather than 1/4 page on page 26 (behind the Real Estate lift out)
Yes folks, pre-purchase your Family Passes NOW if you plan to travel by rail to the Santa Parade in Auckland City on Sunday. The advertisement tells you where you can get your Family Passes from (Britomart, Newmarket, New Lynn and Papakura).
Now I have that Fare Matrix embedded below to assist whether you should purchase that Family Pass or not for travelling by rail on Sunday, the Fare Matrix has all fares included to assist with that calculation (might need to download or zoom into the document)(the fares are based from AT’s Official Fares listed further below):
For AT’s Official Fare Pamphlet you can read this:
Now if you are wondering that you might not be able to reach any of the ticket offices (Papakura, Newmarket, Britomart and New Lynn) to either pre-purchase or purchase on the day for your Family Pass, I have covered the situation before in my $57.80 FOR A RETURN TRIP ON AN AUCKLAND TRAIN post (please note the Orange Fare Guide in that particular post has the old ten-trip ticket prices in there as that post was written Pre AT-HOP, 10-trips are no longer available and the new fare guide which was embedded above has the updated fares to reflect AT-HOP).
Basically if you can not get near a ticket office by Sunday, nor be lucky to have rail staff sell Family Passes on the station which you are planning to depart from you could be very well out of luck securing a Family Pass as these machines do not sell them:

So folks out there planning to travel to the Santa Parade by rail, you have been warned here to go get your Family Passes in advance NOW! Otherwise queues and/or a rather high fare could apply come Sunday.

How stupid ! Travel to town to get your family pass , so you can travel to town with the family !
Come on Auckland transport, surely you can do better than that ?
A lot of families have no need to use the train other than for special occasions, and Santa only comes once a year, or hadn’t the expert travel organiser’s known this ?
Why not have a selection option, on the platform machines, for special occasions so one press on the machine produces a one off special ticket. IT experts should have been able to work that one out !
That option might be of use for sports events too !
