Manukau Transport Interchange Site
Still Nothing – and May/June is Nearly Here
I often trundle down to Manukau City Centre to either: carry out business, shopping, or take Rebekka to the movies – seeming Manukau is “our” CBD rather than the existing one some 35km away across the isthmus. As a result I will go and take a look at the stall MIT and Manukau Transport Interchange site which has stalled since Mainzeal‘s collapse at the beginning of last year. So last week I took a look and some more pictures of the site. Problem is if you match up these latest pictures, they will look the same as the others I have taken so far this year.
Yep still nothing happening since Mainzeal collapsed earlier this year – and this is despite Mainzeal apparently handing the contracts back over to clients so the clients can get the contracts back out and construction resuming.
I asked Councillor George Wood at either the February or March Transport Committee meeting (wonders of the internet here) to question Auckland Transport Chief Operating Officer – Greg Edmonds on the status of the stalled gate line meant to be installed by I believe May for the Manuaku Rail Station after the last time I posted pictures of the stalled work. There is video archives of it somewhere but Mr Edmonds did answer that the work would be complete and the gate line installed at Manukau by May (possibly June). The same was somewhat implied for the bus interchange as well.
Umm Wally Thomas (AT Executive Manager of Communications), I know you watch this but Mr Edmonds comments are ringing somewhat hollow at the moment with nothing but dust gathering at the Manukau Train Station AND Bus Interchange site. Nothing has moved for months and Mainzeal have given the contracts back to either AT or Council to put back out and get the work resumed. The May deadline is going to be missed at this rate with the commuters getting a little bit antsy here over the apparent nothingness.
We (Auckland) able to get a meaningful answer out of Auckland Transport on what is REALLY happening down here at Manukau? Or am I in July going to be posting the virtually same pictures of Manukau again – just with more dust…
Lets see what pictures I collect in May, June and July…
