An update of where things are heading with advancing a #SuperManukau

With the Local Government Elections under way until October 12 (election day) things have slowed down a bit with progressing work on developing Manukau into a Super Metropolitan Centre. That is our elected representatives are all out on the campaign busking with the Unitary Plan set for formal notification at the end of the month.

However, bringing Manukau into the 21st Century continues despite the elections. While our local representatives may have stopped, the private sector, Central Government and the Bureaucracy have not. [In saying that there is other projects that are not TotaRim Consultancy led that are happening in Manukau. The Te Papa Manukau Initiative being one such as example.]

On the TotaRim led front though work is happening quietly behind the scenes to build the framework in advancing a #SuperManukau. After meetings with members of the Auckland Council (both elected and non-elected) putting a proposal forward of the Manukau Super Metropolitan Centre, a road map was drawn up outlying the long term journey. This road map has essentially created the guiding framework for the first phase that #SuperManukau journey.

#SuperManukau is and will be a long term journey though folks. Meaning and as I have said before one must be up for the Long Game (or the Long War) in undertaking such a venture like #SuperManukau. I suppose in looking at this, New Zealand is not quite as quick as other countries in advancing planning projects. That is why a great deal of patience is going to be required in this Long Game. Otherwise you ever risk going rather potty or not getting anything achieved at all

So despite the trickle of progress at the moment, the commitment and passion to bringing the Heart of Southern Auckland into the 21st Century continues.

Current TotaRim-Led Projects on #SuperManukau

  • The Manukau Super Metropolitan Centre concept – the creation of the Manukau Area Plan
  • Continued advocating to Auckland Transport for the Manukau Rail South Link (AT are meant to be reporting back at the earliest in November on this project)
