Busy Week it has Been
In case you missed it here are some links to some articles from happenings in South Auckland that have wider effects on the City as a whole:

Commissioners appointed for the Unitary Plan Hearings Panel
As the article points out one of the Commissioners was a proponent of the Karaka-Weymouth Bridge which stirred a lot of heated emotions from both Karaka and Weymouth early last year. It also caused major embarrassment to the Unitary Plan planners, comm’s teams and the Councillors who had to spend tremendous amount of resources reassuring the communities that the bridge was not in the pipeline at all. This bridge incident was eventually the catalyst for Council to sharpen up its act when it comes to the Unitary Plan and communication with the public. The event also brought blogs firmly into the front line arguably replacing the Herald as an independent and more balanced source of Unitary Plan commentary.
A reminder folks that Unitary Plan submissions are due at the end of next month. The Council has been contacting potential submitters on the New Zealand Planning Institute services on offer. These NZPI buddy up services are designed to help the citizenry produce robust submissions ready for the hearings later in the year. I have taken the offer up with NZPI via the Council and if you are passionate about Auckland I would highly recommend it.
