June Possible Release Date for Rail Strategy

This morning I saw this wee article in the Papakura Courier today:

Auckland Transport plan to announce in June the outcome of both Te Mahia and Westfield Rail Stations which are proposed to be closed by AT. Also noted was the possible release of a timeline in getting three of our dangerous level crossings down here grade separated with all three having deaths at time over the last decade.

As I said at the top of the post I was going to also comment on AT’s Forward Program which is sitting above. I bring you attention to the April Closed Session where under Rail Strategy and Planning, AT are due to discuss the Pukekohe-Papakura Electrification as well as the long-awaited Rail Strategy.

This Rail Strategy will no doubt be a comprehensive document on where our metro rail network is heading. Possibly included in this document (thus possibly released in June to the public) are the following:

  • Fate of Te Mahia, Westfield and Glenora Road Stations
  • Grade Separation of our Level Crossings timeline
  • Pukekohe-Papakura Electrification (although that is being dealt separately looking at the Forward Program)
  • Most likely a timeline on Paerata Station owing to the Wesley Special Housing Area under way near Pukekohe
  • The much awaited decision on the long needed Manukau Rail South Link

So all eyes front for June. A reminder that April 1st AFTER 12pm there is meant to be a large transport related announcement either coming from NZTA, AT, the Government, or all three. We await to see what comes out of that announcement and its consequences no likely for Auckland.
