Auckland Development Committee – October Agenda

I will be presenting as well

The Auckland Development Committee agenda for this month is up and on first looks it is not as “controversial” as last months. On the agenda we have the Puhinui Gateway project back up for discussion, the Milford project going for final ratification after the Environment Court passed its ruling, the Pukekohe Area Plan seeking ratification, and in the Public Input section I am rattling off a short presentation.

That said I could still withdraw from the presentation at short notice depending on another factor making its way through the processes at the moment

In any case if and when I do give my short presentation these will be the three topics I will be briefly covering:

Mr Ben Ross wishes to address the committee on the following topics:

  1. Where to with Auckland’s City Building Post Election
  2. The City Rail Link and a funding mechanism not being explored in Auckland that would fund both the CRL and kick start development in the City Centre area (this also ties in with points one and three)
  3. Reaction to the Finance and Performance Committee’s decision to sell land in Manukau City Centre and what alternative could have been taken for Manukau’s development with the Land (as it will have consequences to other Auckland Development projects on Council land across the City).

All three points tie into each other and you can find my written thoughts on those points in post-election commentary on Auckland issues here in this blog (main two being: Targeted Rate for the City Rail Link? and Why I am Unhappy, and How to Annoy The City in One Go).

Although there will be no power-point presentation this time around. Just a sheet with reference links that will be given out on the day.

I will also be back at the Aotea Centre on the following Monday to hear Brent Toderian’s presentation about Waterfront’s and viability of Cities.
