The new rail timetable starts Monday. Please note the changes as Eastern Line services will terminate at Manukau and no longer Papakura. This means transfers are necessary between Otahuhu and Puhinui.

It is great to see the new timetable come out and it wont take too much “practice” to learn to transfer for Southern and Eastern Line services seeming it happens for the most part already.

However, AT have really pickled themselves for those wanting to go from Manukau to Papakura. At the moment and still we have no Manukau Rail South Link available to allow direct 20 minute frequent services from Manukau to Papakura (trip time would be 14 mins and trust me demand is high for such services having been at Manukau Station frequently). That means you need to take the northbound trains to Puhinui and then transfer to a Southern Line service to head to Papakura or a Manukau service if wanting to go to Manukau. This meant in part quite a bit of backtracking between Puhinui and the Manukau Line junction. Well what AT are suggesting is transferring at Papatoetoe which is even further north thus more backtracking…..

Just build the South Link and get it over and done with seeming Great South Road buses take 28 mins to do the same trip, and even longer from next year as major roadworks start on the Takanini motorway interchange….

Oh and the EMU 6-car sets are now in revenue service too (carrying passengers). With a standard capacity of 750 people we will be moving some serious numbers around…
