I have received pieces of information that the recently formed Public Transport Users Association might have so issues at its top level.

Their strong wording against Auckland Transport after the Saturday brawl in Britomart (So When Will the Police Apologise For This Utter Failing?) prompted reaction right back against them (PTUA) from those who you would think are their allies or supporters. We know Auckland Transport can drop the ball but at the same time they can pull off some feats as well. 75 million people using Public Transport that is still not in first class shape yet is such a feat.

I also caught this and replied to it in which it was deleted soon after:

No one is apologising for Auckland Transport but deleting comments because we either call you out or say something you don’t agree with sounds clap trap to me.

Letting rip into your allies as well is not really a good way to go either and can actually set back any progress with Auckland Transport. Sure we can be sharp with AT but the key difference? We talk and work with Auckland Transport, and give them the occasional bollocking when required like any public authority stuffs something up 😉

PTUA are fast heading down the same path as Councillors Brewer and Quax in being anti any and everything rather than working with the institutions

  1. I disagree while the wording was strong it reflected views of PT users appropriately. Police should not be stranding people instead they could of closed off the affected area and perhaps directed people to the eastern entry if necessary.

      1. How so? The situation is people were stranded for upto 45 mins (not 20) or more due to criminal activity, don’t see how this is acceptable and it makes Auckland Transport and Public Transport look diafunctional which could affect patronage. The fact that they didn’t even communicate and perhaps guide people to nearby bus routes adds to this poor handling of the situation.

Clearly from the videos seen, the west wing could of been closed for investigations while everyone was guided to the east entry and services run with little disruption.

There is clearly things wrong with the way AT runs things and something needs to be done things, good on PTUA for having a strong voice on thus, it’s exactly what AT needs to put things back in order.

It’s easy to blame it on the stupid kids, and of cause it is their fault but AT and the Police essentially let it disrupt the services to that extent; when that did not need to happen.

      2. Being an ex controller at Britomart (known as Service Coordinators) in the two and a bit years I was with Transdev (then Veolia) I was made very familiar of the procedures and contingencies when faced with disruptions.

In my time as a Service Coordinator – reporting to the Service Delivery Managers and keeping tabs with Transdev Comms supervisors I oversaw good days, bad days, the RWC opening night, and even watching armed police board a train to get someone.

We had contingencies laid out including when to bring forward rail buses, how to recover services, and most all what to spam the PA/PID/Text Message system with to alert all the passengers possible.

Admittedly we didnt have Twitter and they still don’t today.

If Transdev/AT/Police were following procedures properly then sealing off the station was the correct move until the brawl dissipated.

However, and this is where I now do understand your concerns the comms effort after the fact and what I am seeing over the last two weeks is sorely lacking and needs a good missile up the backside.

Speaking for myself as a coordinator two years ago I remember the pains I went through for clear and concise info being delivered by all available means.

However, since then I resigned from Transdev and now commentate on Auckland issues
