Are you ready?
Do you care?
Does Council care?
I suppose the last question is the important one. I suppose the risk always is that with the 5,000 survey of alternative transport funding if a majority of the respondents say ‘no’ the Council implements one of the options that we didn’t want in the first place. In other words we get consulted on but Council never (had the intention) to listen to a large majority of respondents in the first place.
Anyhow some of you have probably got a similar email to what I am about to place below that gives heads up to the Long Term Plan consultation. Note that it will different on feedback sessions for your respective Local Board.
This is for Papakura:
As a key stakeholder, we value your input on Auckland’s proposed 10-year budget
From 23 January to 16 March, council is consulting Aucklanders on its 10-year budget, known as the Long-term Plan 2015-2025. During this period there will be a number of ways you can have your say depending on what suits you.
As one of our board’s important stakeholders, we invite you to come and get more information about how this proposed budget will affect Papakura. We are keen to know what matters to you.
We will be at the Papakura Library meeting room in the town centre on:
- Wednesday 11 February, 4-6pm
- Saturday 21 February, 10am-noon
These are drop-in sessions, so please come at a time that suits you. We’d like you to help us support our local area in the overall budget planning for the Auckland region.
We face big challenges over the next ten years, with high population growth, urban intensification and budget constraints. Our priorities for Papakura focus on creating a vibrant town centre, being a sports hub, improving transport connections, caring for our environment and heritage, fostering a skilled workforce and supporting safe and healthy communities.
Have Your Say event
The final decision on Auckland Council’s 10-year budget will be made by the city’s Councillors. We invite you to a Have Your Say event in Papakura. This replaces a formal hearing and is your opportunity to speak directly to your local board and a number of Councillors about what you think is important in this budget. Speaking slots will be kept to a maximum of 15 minutes.
- Monday 9 March 1-7pm, Papakura Local Board committee room, 35 Coles Crescent
Registration is needed for this event and will be available 23 January on shapeauckland.co.nz or by phoning 09 301 0101.
Spread the word
We will also be visiting various parts of the Papakura area, including Takanini and Drury, check out our Facebook page for location updates. So when you see us please stop by for a chat, we would be happy to hear your views. If you would like to meet and discuss any aspect of the proposed budget, please contact us on the details provided below.
We would also like your help in spreading the word about this consultation, with your friends, colleagues and networks. Please let them know that they can go to shapeauckland.co.nz to give feedback or find out more.
