Marsden Wharf Demolition STARTS
From the Mayoral Office
Mayor asks ports to explain
Mayor Len Brown says he is disappointed Ports of Auckland failed to inform Auckland Council of its decision to begin work this week to dismantle the northern section of Marsden Wharf.
The port received regulatory approval for the work in May 2012. The activity at the port meets all statutory regulations and processes.
However the mayor is seeking an urgent explanation from the ports management after they failed to inform the Mayor and councillors of the upcoming work ahead of recent discussions about a Central Wharves strategy, in which one option was to remove Marsden Wharf.
“While Ports of Auckland is within its rights to begin the work, I am disappointed that they would fail to mention it to their shareholders, political governors or the wider public at a time of considerable public interest.”
The mayor will be meeting with the Ports chief executive and board chair in the coming days to seek an explanation.
The council will be assessing the disclosure protocols in greater detail at the next CCO Monitoring Committee meeting.

While we are talking about the Port
Mayor welcomes ports agreement
Mayor Len Brown is delighted that long-running negotiations to reach a collective agreement between the Ports of Auckland and the NZ Maritime Union have concluded.
“Having agreement is good for Auckland, good for the Ports of Auckland and will provide much-needed certainty for the ports staff.”
—–ends——

He should’ve been at the council meeting instead of swanning around Christchurch at the cricket world cup opening ceremony. Big noting again with others money, damn fool.
Why Len think that Ports should tell him? He doesn’t tell anyone what he is doing until it’s too late.
