Linda Cooper Lesson 101: Count to 10 then post comment on Social Media (if it is still wise to do so) – UPDATE

Lesson 101

Never say anything on Facebook nor Twitter that might come back and get a Code of Conduct complaint against you.

Exhibit One:

Exhibit Two (although this does not warrant a Code of Conduct complaint)

Educated huh

The Code of Conduct rule most likely breached and thus sparking a complaint that has apparently been sent to Council CEO Stephen Town would be the following:

5.8.
Respect Members should treat others, including council officers, with respect at all times. This means not using derogatory terms towards others, or about others, including in public facing new media; not misrepresenting the statements or actions of others (whether they be other individual members, the Governing Body, Local Boards, committees or officers); observing the rights of other people; treating people with courtesy, and recognising the different roles others play in local government decision-making

And yes this is the same Councillor who earlier this month said that South Auckland were uneducated and thus needed educating on waste and waste minimisation. That comment was in relation to why does West Auckland pay a $89 Waste Targeted Rate while South and Isthmus Auckland pay $248.

Lesson?

Count to 10 before posting something that can be screen grabbed…..

UPDATE:

I’m very sorry if my comments to Daniel O’Connor on the Auckland Pride Festival FB page have caused offence. On reflection, my choice of words to make a point was unfortunate and I apologise if my actions have detracted from what was otherwise a fantastic event of celebration and pride.

  1. When Linda Cooper said “not so educated as the west residents ” it really MUST be read in context of the discussion. We were discussing rubbish, recyling etc. In context it means Westies areway ahead of the rest of Auckland when it comes to recycling, composting etc and that is the ‘educated’ reference Linda was referring to. We are the original ‘Eco-City”.
