Precinct Properties Purchases QEII Square, CRL To Start Mid Year

Action Stations on the Waterfront

Big news day for Auckland today.

First of all we have through Precinct Properties announcement to the NZX (Stock Exchange) that they have conditionally part of QEII Square opposite Britomart for just over $27m.

Second also from Precinct is they have released some artist impressions of their new tower and laneway at the Downtown Mall site (also opposite Britomart).

The third big news item is that the Mayor on the back of the Precinct announcement has announced himself that phase one of the City Rail Link (the enabling works) will begin mid year-this year. This is to coincide with Precinct developing their downtown site.

Well it seems it is all action stations down in Downtown Auckland with the Precinct Properties announcement, and the mayoral announcement on the CRL itself.

Below is the Precinct presentation to the NZX as well as some images of the new tower and lane way:

The sale of QEII Square is dependent on road stopping procedures with Auckland Transport (the square is an actual road space under the Unitary Plan and legacy rules), and a rezone in the plans as well.

It will be very interesting to see the full layout of the new tower and the proposed laneway (or laneways). Maybe a 3D model mock-up is needed for people in downtown to have a look at so they can see something with their five senses on what is coming for that area perhaps?

One last note; Patrick from Transport Blog and myself noticed the Precinct laneways are covered like how a shopping mall does it to their main thoroughfares. This would give the laneways a mall feel rather than a Vulcan Lane type feel. Grant both concepts have pros and cons but it does give weight to some concept drawings and 3D mock ups to be produced so we can have a nosy please πŸ™‚
