#OurManukau Update 2024

How is Auckland’s second City Centre going?

It has been a while since I last published something on #OurManukau. #OurManukau or Transform Manukau is the urban renewal program for the Manukau area that covers some 600 hectares. Started back a plan in 2015, and formalised in 2017 the urban renewal program is an ambitious 30 year program. Transform Manukau is about transforming from its car-centric past into a pro-human experience place. Manukau including Manukau City Centre serves Auckland’s largest sub region, Southern Auckland. Transform Manukau is overseen by Eke Panuku Development Auckland as part of Auckland Council.

Recently I caught up with the lead of Transform Manukau, Richard Davison and some of his team for a timely update.

Below is a summary of what has been happening, and what the future program is for #OurManukau.

Covid and, the changes to Central Government policy have stalled things with #OurManukau. But with the economic recovery set for 2025, Southern Auckland will see renewed activity again in its beating heart.

One to watch is Airport to Botany Rapid Transit Stage 2 or A2B. A2B is going through its Designation program via Auckland Transport. Once the appeals are finished and the designation official, hopefully construction will start on this game-changer for Manukau and Southern Auckland.

More on #OurManukau in November after a tour of Manukau City Centre!
