Getting Ready For Summer on The Home Front
One of my hobbies is a spot of gardening. Currently Rebekka and I are preparing our first home for our first summer in our new home (purchased January this year) as well as the many more years building memories that we shall have in our own little place down in Papakura.
Being the green-thumb that I am and Rebekka being the DIY-er she is this is what has progressed so far with the landscaping on our property:

Garden 2012 – Papakura

- Beginning the foundation work of the three raised vegetable garden beds. (July 2012)

- Placing the Posts for the raised vegetable garden beds. It was a wet July so the ground was mud

- All the outer posts set for the raised beds with some of the internal posts now being set

- Progressing with the internal posts

- Nearly there. The ground was utter shite. Mud up to your neck stuff here laying the posts

- The back deck covered in mud from the raised beds work

- Raised Beds One and Two ready for the slats. Raised Bed Three would be finished two weeks later.

- Yep you can see the lawn now looking like a mud waste land there

- Bekka working on completing fully Number One Raised Bed with her placing the wrap around the inside of the box. The wood is treated hence the wrap to prevent leeching into the mix and subsequent veges later on

- #1 Raised Garden Bed Complete and awaiting the Garden Mix

- Work progressing on Raised Beds #2 and #3

- Raised Bed #3 has all its posts set. You can see the slats being built for Raised Bed #2

- Raised Bed #2 all complete and now awaiting the garden mix

- 10m3 if high end Living Earth Garden Mix from a local supplier down in Drury. Cost was $100 per metre cubed so you can work the total price there

- Raised Beds #1 and #2 with the initial amount of Garden Mix. Raised Bed #3 is still being finished (was finished the following weekend)

- Seeds for the Summer Season. Beef_Steak Tomatoes, Sweet Corn, Dwarf Beans, Capsicums, Lettuce, Cabbage, Marigolds (to encourage bees) are in those seed raising trays.

- Work now is beginning out the front with the Garden Mix supplementing the worn out existing soil. This is a Dwarf Bush Rose flanking the front path.

- I love Parsley especially as it contains Vitamin K. We have six Parsley Bushes ready to spice those summer dishes – YUM

- More Parsley – never can get enough of the stuff

- Working on the Front Garden with edging and weeding being slowly done. Garden Mix is being added to supplement the tired existing soil. Our Boysenberry Plant is also located there too – DOUBLE YUM

- Left side of the front path with the Standard and Bush Rose seen. Again Garden Mix is being placed to boost the soil and Earthworms.

- Continuing to add the garden mix

- All three Raised Garden Beds filled and ready to go. Raised Bed #2 has carrot seeds sown and I saw the first poke up yesterday :D

- The Blueberry Plant in flower. About 50% of the flowers survive long enough for the bees to do their stuff and fruit to be set. Must work harder sheltering this beauty from the wind

- Lemon Tree. Needs a feed and spray this weekend.

- Mandarin Tree. Will be allowed to crop in 2013.

- My Dwarf Totara Tree out in the back corner.
