Auckland Transport To Re-Think Strategy

AT Chair Dr Lester Levy on Auckland Transport

On Thursday at the Council Accountability and Performance Committee; Dr Lester Levy – Chair of Auckland Transport gave his introductory speech and some outline of AT from the last six months and a need to rethink strategy.

You can see the video (which is free but you do need to register) from All About Auckland‘s “Creative Breath of Fresh Air at Auckland Transport

I recommend watching the video first before I start rattling off commentary on it. I want you to draw your own conclusions first and if inclined leave them in the comment box below. There is quite some startling admissions from Dr Levy including the 140 million passenger trips by 2021 pretty much now a “no-go.”

But as I said, watch and draw your own conclusions.

Oh the person next to him on the right is AT CEO – David Warburton.

Edit to reflect comments:

The Chief Operating Officer Greg Edmonds WAS present at that meeting – just not seen via video (nor via the written records yet). Mr Edmonds per AT’s Communications Manager Wally Thomas (okay out of the last two years covering AT issues, they decide to squeak now) was giving his business report and taking questions from the Accountability and Performance Board.

As blog policy (and as a reminder): commentary is updated to reflect changes or things unseen previously. If one believes there has been an admission such as me not seeing Mr Edmonds but he in fact was there – just not on the video feed available  – leave your note in the comments box and I shall update accordingly

  1. Finally had a chance to sit and watch that video Ben. What a change in attitude. I only hope that he can see it through. Just changing to daily reporting is a step forward in itself. Perhaps a focus on gating stations will be next? There will always be fare dodgers. To me, the key is to reduce that and I think the easiest way is to simply gate all stations. The average person that dodges fares now is not going to jump a gate. Also, the availability of AT HOP cards needs to be expanded. I also think they need to drop the 25c online ‘top up’ fee. It is a negative in the eyes of those that I have spoken to and a minor cost that can surely be picked up somewhere else.

    1. One moment, I shall write up a post that gives term to the Meme “And Jesus Wept”

AT are “cracking down” on Fare Evaders while those in Melbourne cant even get a ticket 😛

  2. For the record….Chief Operating Officer Greg Edmonds was indeed at the meeting. He presented his business report and responded to a number of questions from Board members.
