Why would you want to get stuck in jams when an alternative is available…
Another conclusion of the Summer Break and another report from the Herald of people stuck in three-hour traffic delays between Wellsford and Puhoi – State Highway One.
From the NZ Herald:
Traffic foul north of Auckland

Holiday-makers returning to the big smoke are leaving a trail of fumes north of Auckland in traffic delays of up to three hours.
Police said State Highway One was experiencing larging than usual volumes of traffic.
Motorists and their passengers are venting on social media about the hold-ups.
Said Waimarie Ratu: “Traffic from Tehana to Warkworth moving at snails pace.”
Angie Calver posted on Facebook that there was hope for long-suffering road-users: “So after three hours on the road we are past warkworth and its like there was never any traffic!”
…
If you live on the Isthmus or in West, South or East Auckland may I ask is there any particular reason why you are not using State Highway 16 from Wellsford to carry out some of your trip – in a more efficient and sane manner.
Here I show you the map:

While I might be condescending the message is simple:
Plan Ahead – And you might not be stuck in three-hour traffic jams venting on Social Media…..
And here is Operation Life Saver from Transport Blog: http://transportblog.co.nz/our-proposals/operation-lifesaver/ that outlines some bypasses in place of that Holiday Highway which would also assist in keeping traffic moving efficiently
