Super Metropolitan Centre Redux

Looking back at some key issues

I have noticed from feedback some questions around Super Metropolitan Centres and bus stations. I will look back at bus stations and what has got up the nose of people in regards with that situation on another post. In this post I will look back on the Super Metropolitan Centre as predominant question kept cropping up – that is what is the difference between a Metropolitan Centre and Super Metropolitan Centre.

The answer to the Super Metropolitan Centre question was contained in my Unitary Plan submission that is now with Auckland Council. That said the Super Metropolitan Centre concept is buried amongst rule changes that would go with the new zone as well.

To make it easier I have taken the main material from my submission and put it into a separate document below. If Council were to adopt the Super Metropolitan Centre zone into the Unitary Plan, Auckland would have two with one in Manukau and the other most likely Albany. What makes especially Manukau different to the other nine Metropolitan Centres listed in the Unitary Plan that it deserves its own centre ranking is also spelled out in the extract and no doubt will be debated as we approach the hearings later in the year.
