First Electric Train Service on the Southern Line to Britomart Away

Southern Line next to carry the EMU’s in revenue service (carrying passengers)

 

And so today marked the next chapter in the roll out of Auckland’s electric passenger trains.

At 11:36am the first Electric Train 3-car set carried its first 40 passengers plus crew (including Ticket inspectors) on its Southern Line journey from Papakura to Britomart. Those wanting the Eastern Line will need to transfer between Papatoetoe and Otahuhu to carry on their journey east.

BRT = Britomart
PKA = Papakura
All services run on the Southern Line via Newmarket

 

A special day today. That said the true tests will be in the morning peak on the Southern Line from Papakura especially when running in 6-car consists that carry 750 passengers (the existing 6-car SA diesels carry 650 approximate) as well as the freight trains plying the line.
