July 20 marks the day we go full electric trains
Some good news after this earlier today: Safety Compromised On Rail Network. Police, Government and Auckland Transport Dither
Although a bit on the quiet at the moment I have heard that Monday July 20 is when all services apart from Papakura to Pukekohe on our metro rail network go full time electric.
Meaning the diesel trains that have serviced our rail network will be finally withdrawn and in most cases decommissioned. The Pukekohe-Papakura leg will still be serviced by the ADL-Diesel Multiple Units which are meant to be refurbished soon.
Although July 20 is exciting news the problems being plaguing the Electrics of recent especially on the Eastern Line (1 in 3 late in May) I hope Auckland Transport will be doing something to correct this (they are: What’s being done to fix rail reliability and speed)
This is going to be a real issue for people who commute from Pukekohe to east Auckland. An extra change required which adds 8 mins to a journey
