Diesels retired, Auckland network electrification – GO*

*Apart from Papakura to Pukekohe

Today marks a special day when Auckland finally got itself into the well 20th Century in that the electric trains are now fully rolled out across all four Lines.

No more noisy and smelly diesels which did do their job in the intervening period before and when Project DART started back in 2007. Some eight years later you could say marks the end of DART with the diesels now withdrawn and the electrics plying the Southern, Eastern, Western and Onehunga Lines full-time.

Yes I know Pukekohe-Papakura is missing from the equation. But I have always supported and pushed for the $110m electrification extension that comes with new stations at Paerata (next to the Wesley College Special Housing Area) and Drury South (next to the Drury SHA and Heavy Industrial Complex) to be done ASAP not between 2022-2032 as currently planned. Especially with the amount of development due down in that area over the next ten years (2015-2025).

Below are the new timetables for the respective Lines:

Southern Line:

NOTE: Those going to or from Pukekohe will now need to transfer at Papakura for all services further north.

Eastern Line:

Western Line:

NOTE: Shuttle buses run between Swanson and Waitakere. Check timetable and Auckland Transport for more information.
