First major piece of upgrade to start over Summer break
As some might be aware NZTA have started the Southern Motorway southern corridor upgrades which give six lanes from Hill Road through to Papakura (in both directions), an extra lane between Manukau and Hill Road going south and a new Takanini motorway interchange.
Below is the latest newsletter from NZTA on the Southern Motorway southern corridor upgrade:
As said in the newsletter and the reason why the Southern (and Onehunga) Line(s) is closed over the Christmas-New Year break is to allow the beginning of the Takanini Interchange works which span over the Southern Line in that area.
It also means for the next three and a bit years patience on that section of the motorway (which I use most often to travel north or back to Papakura) is going to be needed until the upgrade is complete.
That said I wonder if they should have whole-hogged it and carried the 3-lane-ing all the way to the urban boundary at Drury?
