Good luck catching a train to town today
For once this isn’t the Southern Motorway playing up but rather a train broken down between the Newmarket and Britomart
UPDATE: The fault has cleared and all Lines are open again but recovery is under way.
As the overall public transport provider though AT need to start fining Transdev and Kiwi Rail if they cause the faults. I remember my days with Transdev writing those reports when disruptions would occur so that Auckland Transport would allocate the penalties out. Wonder what is happening today?
Also one thing the CRL will do is mitigate against today Western Line down the CRL, Southern Line around the Eastern Line. Extra Redundancy Capacity. Note I said Mitigate not fix all.
Given we have had the Electrics for two years now these crippling faults should not be happening at all.
From the NZ Herald:
Trains down between Newmarket and Britomart
7:44 AM Thursday Mar 31, 2016
A fault between Newmarket and Britomart is causing delays this morning.
Auckland Transport said rail tickets and AT Hop cards would be accepted on all scheduled buses.
However, passengers were being encouraged to find alternative transport.
A passenger on the affected train said they had been stuck about 150m down from the Newmarket station for about an hour.
Power went out just before 7am and the train had only just started moving again just before 8am.
“The brakes slammed down and it’s just been rebooting over the past hour. The power comes on, then goes off again. The air con turns on, then it’s out.
“People are annoyed, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”
I should do a Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act request on specific train faults given the one described above seems to happen a tad too often.
As for customer service?
Good luck given buses in the area are usually full already – and that is before they have to deal with train passengers looking for a bus seat…
