From Auckland Transport:

99 cents to ride the buses and trains

07/11/2016 12:58 p.m.

It’s much easier and cheaper for children to get around Auckland at the weekend.

Auckland Transport now has 99 cent weekend fares for children aged 5 to 15 travelling on an AT HOP card.

AT Metro, Group Manager Customer and Market, Kevin Leith says Auckland Transport wants young people getting out and about on the weekend and using public transport with their parents.

“Kids love to take a ride on a train or a double-decker bus; it’s great fun.”

The 99-cent fare covers travel on buses and trains on weekend and during public holidays. To qualify for this fare, parents need to load a child concession on the AT HOP card and it needs to be registered.

Children can make up to 5 bus or train trips over a 4-hour period with up to 30 minutes between each trip.

Mr Leith says the 99-cent fare means the whole family can use public transport to go Christmas shopping and to head to summer events like Christmas in the Park.

Great incentive with the old Family Pass no longer in existence. As a comparison Sydney has a flat $2.50 universal fare for their transit system (excluding the Airport Stations) every Sunday.

Nice work though Auckland Transport.
