What is Stopping Queen Street Becoming a World Class Pedestrian Mall? Nothing but NIMBYs and Politics

Turn Queen Street into a true Golden Mile

 

Given the amount of times Queen Street is closed for parades and protests without City traffic going to hell in a hand basket it really has to be asked why isn’t the lower half from Mayoral Drive to Britomart closed off to cars for good.

 

My reply:

 

The America’s Cup Defence, and the APEC Summit are both to be held in Auckland in 2021. Given roads are going to be closed anyway we might as well flip Queen Street to a pedestrian mall AND get the Southern Airport Line built:

 

 

So let’s do this folks
