LGOIMA Request into Papakura Bus Lanes – AGAIN. Where Are They?

Auckland Transport falling behind

Earlier this year I had filed a Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act request to Auckland Transport about when bus lanes along the Great South Road between Manurewa and Papakura Metropolitan Centre. The short answer was consultation was meant to begin in May and the painting started in the 2017/2018 construction season.

Fast forward to September 2017 and we have had no consultation and subsequently no painting started yet.

So time to file another LGOIMA to Auckland Transport:

Bus Lanes of Great South Road between Papakura and Manurewa

From: Ben Ross –

Dear Auckland Transport,

I would like to know the following please:

1) Does Auckland Transport have plans for bus lanes down the Great South Road from Papakura Metropolitan Centre to Manurewa Town Centre

2) If so (see above) when will the bus lanes be rolled out and completed for bus lanes down the Great South Road from Papakura Metropolitan Centre to Manurewa Town Centre

3) Once the bus lanes are rolled out and completed what will their operational times be for bus lanes down the Great South Road from Papakura Metropolitan Centre to Manurewa Town Centre

I look forward to your reply

Yours faithfully,

—ends—-

Auckland Transport are due to report back on October 13. Will post an update once they reply and the next round of action as a consequence of that reply.

  1. We don’t need bus lanes on this stretch of road, it is congested enough already and bus patronage is low. Gt South road should be double laned for cars in both directions without cycle lanes or bus lanes, from Manukau City to Papakura. Bus lanes and cycleways cause congestion, not reduce it.

    1. I really hope that was sarcasm in that comment.

Double lanes for cars will not give you the relief you are looking for and the North Western Motorway is a testament of that.
Again 1 full bus like the 33 Great South Road service is 55 cars off the road for those who need it.
