Comment from Me on Auckland about Auckland
Last night it took me about 10 attempts to write up my Census 2013 and What it means for Auckland post after the City got pretty much rail roaded by some apparent big story news from one of the most least reputable sources in this given moment in New Zealand.
In the end it was hard to ignore and so my views on the matter concerning Mayor-Elect Len Brown are the following:
Owing to the situation that has arisen over Mayor Len Brown and the apparent source of the mud raking I say this:
Unless the Mayor has committed a criminal act then his transgression is one for him and his family to sort and also between him and God (being a Christian as am I) – privately. My confidence in the Mayor in building Auckland into the 21st Century has not changed from when I gave my vote three weeks ago.Absolute priority is to Auckland, her health and “City Building” – this is where our energy lies. So assuming Penny Hulse is chair of the Auckland Plan Committee; when is the first Committee meeting of the new Council? We have Area Plans to write and a City to build and I am getting that City Building Itch again.
Further more I have noted the Prime Minister giving his “confidence” behind OUR elected mayor just a short moment ago:
The Prime Minister and aspects of the wider Parliament have displayed confidence in OUR elected Mayor Len Brown and the capabilities of Len to lead the Council on critical city building projects such as housing and transport.
I mention this for the above reason and I will say it again
The Prime Minister and aspects of the wider Parliament have displayed confidence in OUR elected Mayor Len Brown and the capabilities of Len to lead the Council on critical city building projects such as housing and transport. The Mayor and the Councillors will soon be entering a Social Contract with us on October 29th. From there they as our representatives have the duty to carry out their job as we elected them to do. And with Government continuing to display confidence in Len and in Len leading the Council this is all I need

From the NZ Herald
John Key: Len Brown has ‘got a job to do’
Prime Minister John Key says he does not believe Mayor Len Brown’s two-year extra-marital affair will destabilise Auckland Council and he is focused on working with Mr Brown on core council issues.
Mr Key, commenting for the first time this afternoon on the Mayor’s sex scandal, said it was “a matter for Len Brown and his family”.
“I’m not going to express a view on that … In the end, that’s the matter for the politician.”
Asked whether he felt Mr Brown’s actions could destabilise council at a time when the Government was working with it on crucial housing initiatives, Mr Key said: “No, I don’t think so. In the end, Len’s got a job to do as the Mayor of Auckland.
“He’s always worked very effectively with the Government. From the Government’s point of view, we’re interested in the things that matter to Auckland, and that is certainly housing … as is transport, and we’ll be talking to Len about those issues, not other issues.”
He added: “I intend to work with him as the Mayor of Auckland, and in the end my job is to work with elected officials and get the job done for Auckland.”
Asked whether Mr Brown had his unequivocal support, Mr Key said: “I’ve just answered that question.”
…
We have matters to attend to as Aucklanders such as City and Transport Building. The Prime Minister as emphasised that to the point saying ‘Get on with the Job!’
We have a job to do all right. Talking Auckland is running the commentary flat out in key issues coming through. The most recent two issues being covered were:
Latest Transport Updates
and
Census 2013 and What it means for Auckland
Friday I will be at a conference talking with other like minded individuals on how to progress Auckland into the 21st Century:
