Some Stay others take a leap
As noted in Remember your AT-HOP Monthly Will Rise 5% to $200/month from End of February earlier today Auckland Transport has announced fare rises across a range of AT-HOP products to take effect from the end of the month.
Below is the movements in the fares that affect either trains and/or buses:

Remember:
- The NZTA Cost Index rose 0.5% for 2015
- The New Zealand Economy is in a state of Deflation (-0.1%)
- Fuel in Auckland averages between $1.61-$1.65/litre
- The Farebox recovery rate is on target and is about to exceed the target

So how does Auckland Transport justify:
- Increase of 5% for the A-B Zone Adult Monthly
- 18% increase for the A-B Zone Child Monthly
- Other increases averaging above 5% including moving Orakei to two stages (bus fare should have gone down not the train fare going up)
- Equity issues in South and West Auckland for those who send their children towards the Isthmus for their education needs
The simple answer is it can not so we will just watch people either
- Fare evade
- Take the car with petrol prices still falling
Your transport provider everyone…
